Tinnitus

Tinnitus is a symptom that is associated with hearing loss. It is also a symptom that is common in other health problem. Symptoms of ringing, roaring, clicking, hissing, or buzzing sounds in the ear are all referred to as tinnitus (tin-NY-tus).

Occasional ringing in the ears that everyone experiences is different from persistent or almost constant tinnitus. The first step in the treatment of tinnitus is to determine whether the symptom is of a medically treatable disease and receive appropriate medical management. A hearing test is recommended to assess the auditory system.

Treatment

Hearing aids – For individuals with hearing loss, the hearing aid makes it easier to hear sound and people speak and often makes the tinnitus less noticeable.

 

Maskers - A small electronic device that use sound to make the tinnitus less noticeable.

Tinnitus Retraining Therapy a combination of counseling and maskers to better cope with the tinnitus.

 

What can you do on your own?

Surround your environment with pleasant sounds such as music or recorded nature sounds such as ocean waves, or running water.
